The lost leader

1964
In that year?that is, 1910 or 1911?/ enjoyed the exceptional ex perience of seeing Isadora Duncan dance in Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. The memory of it never left me. The slow Second Movement, in particular, from that day to this impressed me as something "out of this world," a miracle of sound never equaled before or since. If Miss Duncan danced like a maenad in the fast Third Movement, in this the Second Movement she did no more than walk, but it was a walk that comes as near to a dance as it is possible for a walk to be.
