The invention, which belongs to the internet terminal field, discloses a method and system for equipment discovery and a server. The method comprises the following steps that: at least two piece of equipment send respective equipment information to the server, wherein each piece of equipment information includes information of gateway equipment connected with the corresponding equipment; the server determines whether the two piece of equipment are connected or not according to the information of the gateway equipment; if the server determines that the two piece of equipment can be connected, all or parts of equipment information of the two piece of equipment is feedbakced to each other. According to the invention, the server is used for collecting and issuing equipment information, thereby solving a problem that equipment discovery can not be realized when broadcasting or multi-broadcasting can not be realized in a local area network. Therefore, an effect that equipment discovery can be realized perfectly even when the broadcasting or multi-broadcasting can not be used in the local area network and thus communication between equipment can be established can be realized.
