Erubigenin, a trihydroxyoleanenoic acid from Gardenia erubescens

Hydrolisis of the saponin fraction of G. erubescens provided the new triterpene acid 3β,23,24-trihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid, erubigenin (1), identified by spectral analysis.
