Towards Constraining Tidal Mixing: U Gru

Tidal phenomena can manifest in numerous manners. This chapter concerns the investigation of the enigmatic manifestation of tides in the multiple system U Gru. We build upon the initial findings of (Bowman et al. 2019) with orbital phase-resolved spectroscopy of U Gru obtained with UVES via ESO Directors Discretionary Time. We review the data of the system, perform spectroscopic disentangling, determine the orbital and atmospheric parameters, and investigate possible mechanisms to explain the observed series of tidally perturbed oscillations observed in U Gru.
