Violência Obstétrica e Assistência Perinatal na América Latina: Uma Revisão Integrativa

Obstetric Violence (OV) refers to several types of violence and damage committed by health professionals in perinatal care. This work aimed to analyze the main forms of obstetric violence suffered by women in Latin America. This is an integrative review, carried out in November 2019, at the Virtual Health Library (VHL) in the MEDLINE, LILACS, and Index Psi. Periodicals databases; research was still carried out at SciELO. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 17 articles were selected. It was found that OV presents itself as a violence that is both gender and institutional. And it occurs in different ways, being 6 categories observed. In this violence there is the objectification of the woman’s body and the impossibility of manifesting her autonomy. OV is still little discussed and recognize as such, both by victims and by those who practice it. Therefore, a greater debate about this violence is necessary in order to put in practice a humanized perinatal care, which respects the rights of women.
