The invention discloses a method and a device for positioning oversell reasons of an e-commerce website. The method comprises the following steps of acquiring an actual purchase number, a visual purchase number, a defective product number, a total order number, a return inventory number, a shopping cart occupation number and a returned purchase number of each commodity; acquiring a commodity number according to the sum of the actual purchase number and the visual purchase number, acquiring a surplus inventory number by means of sequentially subtracting the defective product number, the difference between the total order number and the return inventory number, the shopping cart occupation number and the returned purchase number from the commodity number, and updating the inventory of each commodity according to the surplus inventory number; acquiring oversell data of one commodity of which the inventory is smaller than 0, and comparing the oversell data with the corresponding historical data; judging that the corresponding commodity is oversold abnormally when the oversell data change is greater than a preset value in comparison with the historical data; acquiring data related to the abnormally oversold commodity, and positioning abnormal oversell reasons according to the data. The method and the device for positioning the oversell reasons of the e-commerce website have the advantages that the oversell reasons can be accurately positioned, so that the corresponding system can be optimized targetedly, and the oversell problem is solved fundamentally.
