Eye Movement Analysis to Improve Graphics Design

2000
Abstract Nowadays, graphical representations are used in most technical and educational documents, and increasingly in the interfaces, However, it has been observed that except for the experts, many readers have great difficulties in understanding them. The objective of this paper is to give evidence that the studies carried out in cognitive psychology and in particular the use of eye movements recording, can assess the cognitive relevance of designers' graphical choices. In this research, we started from the results obtained with recording eye movements, to provide recommendations for the use of graphical representations in technical and educational documents, whether they are presented on paper or on screen.
