Influence of Patent False Lumen on Secondary Dilation of the Distal Aorta Following Surgery for Acute Type A Aortic Dissection

Method: Between 1997 and 2006, 243 patients underwent emergency operation for AAAD. In-hospital mortality rate was 7.0 % (17/243). Of the discharged patients, 156 patients (69%) underwent at least 2 CT scans postopeatively at least 6 months interval (mean, 35 ± 24 months). These patients (mean age, 63 years) were divided into two groups according to the initial status of the false lumen; patent group (n = 100), and thrombosed group (n = 56). In each group, segment-specific aortic growth rate were calculated.
