Development of a water management plan for an acid manufacturing plant

A survey of the water utilization and effluent characteristics relating to the acid manufacturing plant of a munitions factory was conducted as part of a program involving a changeover from batch to continuous production of trinitrotoluene. The quantity and composition of wastewater arising from the production of H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/, HNO/sub 3/, and NH/sub 3/ were considered, and an integrated water management plant for the factory as a whole was developed. Data concerning the quality and composition of the individual raw and treated water streams are presented.
