Osteoartropatia espinhal proliferativa em iguana-verde (Iguana iguana)

His reported a clinic and histopathologic observation from a green iguana affected by spinal osteoarthropathy along the tail. Owners revealed that the animal presented decreases in appetite and movement. The animal was 8 years old. It showed in a clinical exam a rigid tail, various focal nodular swelling with pain in palpation, and necrosis of the distal portion of the tail. Radiographies revealed spondylopathy in all caudal vertebrae with spondylosis and spondyloarthrosis. Local bone aspirates didn’t show bacterial contamination. Tail was amputated distally and necrosis was removed. After some months, the animal returned because looking worse. Blood exams revealed a regenerative hypochromic anemia and leucocitosis, together with a chronic renal insufficiency, and euthanasia was performed. Necropsy showed abscess in the thoracic spinal caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and histopathological analysis revealed granulomatosis inflammation with micetomas formation and acute peripheric fibrosis in bone spine.
