Fisherioside a, a new steroidal glycoside from the starfish Leptasterias fisheri

A new glycoside called fisherioside A for which the structure (22E,24S,25S)-3-O-(β-D-xylopyranosyl)-24-methyl-3β,6β,8,15α,16β-pentahydroxy-5α-cholest-4,22-dien-26-oic acid N-(2-sulfoethyl)amide sodium salt was isolated from the Far-East starfish Leptasterias fisheri. Its structure was elucidated using two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy and tandem mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization (ESI).
