Organic agriculture cannot feed the world

2008
This paper addresses an important issue on the acceptance of organic agriculture for production and food security in both developed and developing countries. A recent paper, which has reopened a previous debate by presenting an analysis purporting to show that organic agriculture cannot only greatly increase productivity in developing countries but could also feed the entire world, is discussed. The paper was proven to have overestimated the productivity of organic agriculture, and that the proposal on a legume-based cropping strategy is not viable to meet the required nutrients (i.e., nitrogen) of the crops.
