Impact of E-Environment on Company Secretaries

E-commerce has increased the ability of the organizations to better manage supply and value chains, links with business partners, manufacturing and distribution systems, and customer relationships. E-business has led to disappearance of geographic boundaries bringing organizations and customers closer. It allows organizations to be more efficient by reducing administrative costs and cycle time, streamlining business processes and by using best resources regardless of location. The purpose of this study is to take stock of the changing role of the company secretary in the e-commerce environment. A pre-structured questionnaire has been used to find out the practices and opinions of 60 company secretaries on various aspects related to the impact of e-environment on their role and activities in the organization. The study indicates that their role has drastically changed with the shift from traditional business to e-business in the current e-scenario.
