Design and performance of a hybrid mass spectrometer of QEB geometry

1986
Abstract A new hybrid tandem mass spectrometer consisting of a quadrupole mass filter followed by a double focusing mass spectrometer has been constructed. In this paper, we report on the design and performance of this instrument. Examples of some of the various types of experiments that can be performed on this instrument are shown and other possible experiments are discussed with special emphasis on comparison with other tandem mass spectrometers in general and tandem hybrid mass spectrometers in particular. Possible design changes that should improve the performance of the instrument are also discussed.
