False-twister as a yarn formation factor in wrap spinning

The paper deals with the wrap spinning: one of the modern spinning methods with industrial application. The aim of the research is to study the role of the false-twister in the formation of wrap yarns on a hollow spindle machine. Three cases are investigated: without use of false twister, with single and with double wrapping around the false twister. A database of images is created, which describes the yarn formation in details. Wrap yarn’s structure, geometrical characteristics, and mechanical properties are analysed. The results obtained show some discrepancies with former statements in the literature, but demonstrate the significant importance of the false twister for the morphology and properties of the plain wrap yarns.
