Sensitivity of Frequency Selective Surfaces Made on Dielectric Substrate to Thermal Loads

2019
Frequency selective surfaces and reflectarrays gain major interests in sensor application, including tools for remote monitoring of mechanical and thermal loads as well as structural fracturing. This paper presents a printed frequency selective structure made with the split ellipse. Frequency response of the structure and its electromagnetic characteristic variations due to thermal loads are investigated. Results obtained confirm a potential for achieving sensitivity to thermal loads useful for practical applications. The focus is on applications in the K-band and implementation in the harsh environments with the measurement range above 10 meters.
