The relationship between adjustment factors and age-related cataract morbidity

2011
Objective To discuss the relationship betueen age-related cataract morbidity and the adjustment to provide the theory basis for the research and the treatment of age-related cataract pathogenesis. Methods Sixty eyes of thirty patients with close cataract degrees were chosen and the dominant eyes were measured a week before and after the surgery. The lens thicknesses were measured before the surgery at the natural state and the miosis state, and part of the anterior membrane of the central lens was ripped during the surgery and stained with HE Method and cell numbers were counted. Results Before and after the surgery, the dominant eyes of the 30 cases didn't change, and the changes of the lens thicknesses of the dominant eyes and the non-dominant eyes at the natural state and the miosis state had remarkable difference(P0.01).The epithelial cell density of the lens membrane of the dominant eyes and the non-dominant eyes were(3606±429)/mm2 and(3913±433)/mm2 respectively and its difference had remarkable significance statistically(P0.01).Conclusions The dominant eye is used with higher adjustment degree and with larger amount of light in the daily visual activities, which leads to the reduction of epithelial cell numbers of lens membrane and its cataract morbidity earlier than the non-dominant eye.
