Superficial peroneal nerve entrapment in a young athlete: The diagnostic contribution of magnetic resonance imaging

1997
Fascial entrapment of the superficial peroneal nerve produced severe pain in the ankle and foot of a 16-year-old female athlete after several sprains of the same ankle. The pain coexisted with erythema and sensory alteration in the area involved. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the diagnosis of this unusual neuropathy. Limited fasciectomy, at the point where the nerve becomes subcutaneous, relieved all symptoms.
