Method for selectively absorbing chlorine and/or bromine by using steam from carbon dioxide containing off-gas

1990
PURPOSE: To remove Cl 2 and/or Br 2 included in CO 2 -contg. off-gases by mixing steam with these off-gases, then cooling this mixture until the steam condenses. CONSTITUTION: The steam is mixed with the CO 2 -contg. off-gas contg. SO 2 at least 1 mol per mol of Cl 2 and/or per mol of Br 2 . In the case of the CO 2 - contg. off-gas contg. SO 2 ≤1 mol per mol of Cl 2 and/or per mol of Br 2 , the SO 2 sufficient for meeting the requirements described above is added to the gas and the steam is mixed therewith. This mixture is then cooled until the steam condenses. As a result, the Cl 2 and/or Br 2 may be removed from the off-gas. COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
