Apparatus and method for detecting anomalies for oil level sensor.

An apparatus anomaly detection to detect an abnormality of a sensor oil level having a detector (50) of the lower oil level adapted to produce an output that changes as an oil level in a condensate tray of oil (22) an internal combustion engine (2) changes across a first level reference oil (LVL1) and a detector (52) of the upper oil level adapted to produce an output which changes when the level of the condensate tray oil (22) changes across a second level reference oil (LVL2) that is higher than the first level reference oil (LVL1), being adjusted the first level reference oil (LVL1) and the second oil level reference (LVL2) so that the oil level falls between the first oil level reference (LVL1) and the second oil level reference (LVL2) when the internal combustion engine (2) is operating and the level oil is ma yor the second oil level reference (LVL2) when the internal combustion engine (2) is not operating, the detecting apparatus characterized anomalies comprising: recording means detector output upper oil level prior to start up of the engine to register a detector output upper oil level (52) before it is launched the internal combustion engine (2); and means determining the anomaly to determine the detector (52) of the upper oil level has failed if the detector output (50) of the lower oil level is indicating, after the start of the internal combustion engine ( 2) that the oil level is higher than the first level reference oil (LVL1) while the output of the detector (52) of the upper oil level recorded by the recording means detector output upper oil level prior to start the engine is indicating that the oil level was lower than the second reference oil level (LVL2) before the start of the internal combustion engine (2).
