Comparison of Color versus Black-and-White Visual Displays as Indicated by Bombing and Landing Performance in the 2B35 TA-4J Flight Simulator.

1984
Abstract : Twenty-two highly qualified and experienced Navy instructor pilots were tested with respect to (a) bombing and (b) landing performance in the General Electric 2B35 TA-4J full-color wide-screen flight simulator. Half the pilots flew with color first and then black-and-white, the other half flew in reverse order. In Phase I of the study, repeated bombing runs were made and circular bombing errors obtained. In Phase II, repeated carrier-type landings were made and critical landing parameters were measured. Under the conditions of the study, no statistically significant differences were shown between performance with color or with black-and-white. (Author)
