Behavior of micro-cycle lubrication generated by a grid-textured surface

2016
The micro-cycle lubrication phenomenon generated by a grid-textured surface is investigated through experiments. The experiments involve designing a grid-textured surface and observing its lubrication behavior. Results show that the grid-textured surface helps set up hydrodynamic lubrication micro-region pressure and peak value locals at the intersection points of the grooves. The grid-textured surface decreases graduation from the intersection point to the center of the rhombus. The experiments show that micro-cycle flow improves lubrication and wear. A simulation model is developed to investigate lubrication. The comparison of pressure distribution on the grid-textured and smooth surfaces reveals the details of lubrication behavior.
