Ultra-compact TM-pass Polarizer based on Stacked Photonic Waveguides Laterally Coupled with Vanadate Strips

An ultra-compact TM-pass polarizer is numerically demonstrated by laterally coupling a stacked Si waveguide with vanadate strips. Results show a device of 3µm in length is capable of achieving an ultra-high extinction ratio of 40dB and a low insertion loss of 2.2dB at 1.55μm.
