Effect of MDCT angiography in develloping treatment strategies for peripheral arterial occlusive disease

2011
Objective:The purpose of this study was to discuss the reliability of treatment decisions based on MDCT angiographic findings of patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease(PAOD).Methods:Thirty-eight patients with PAOD were evaluated with multi-detector row CT angiography and 20 of them underwent DSA.The results were reported to vascular specialists who assessed outcome and then made primary therapeutic decisions. The findings on MDCTA and DSA in the peripheral arteries of these patients were used as the basis for treatment determines, respectively. One of four treatment recommendations for each arterial segment was independently determined in a blinded manner by the readers on the main basis of CT angiographic findings and DSA.The arteries were evaluated as anatomic segments on DSA images and on multi-detector row CT angiograms. Results:There were 402 arterial segments depicted at both examinations. There was no statistically significant difference between two groups of arterial treatment determines indicated on the main basis of CT angiographic findings and DSA images(χ2=3.4,P=0.493).Conclusion:Multi-detector CT angiography can be a valuable and reliable noninvasive imaging method for the evaluation of patients with PAOD.CT angiographic findings are a highly accurate basis for treatment decision and planning.
