Photonic-Chip-Based Nonlinear Compression of Picosecond Pulses

We demonstrate soliton-effect compression of picosecond pulses using ultralow loss dispersion-engineered 40-cm-long silicon-nitride nanowaveguides. We show compression by factors of 21× of 1 ps pulses using pulse energies as low as 18 pJ.
