POSTA web platform: Open Source Projects of Assistive Technologies

2020
Despite the important role that assistive technologies play in the lives of those who need them, their access is far from being universal: it is estimated that only 10% of people with disabilities have access to these devices. POSTA: Open Source Assistive Technology Projects emerges with an eye on this gap. POSTA is a platform that allows people with disabilities to access the devices they need from anywhere in the world. This is possible thanks to the fact that, just as there are people who demand assistive technologies, there are also people who offer assistive technologies, passionate about creating, designing and innovating, in pursuit of improving the quality of life of people with disabilities. POSTA seeks to be the link between these two large social sectors, creating a community throughout the world. Under the Open Source philosophy, the technologies offered on the platform are accompanied by detailed instructions that allow their free replication. It also encourages collaborative work, allowing other users to add improvements and new proposals to the projects already available. The project is currently under the domain www.postaproject.org which was positively received by the entire academic environment and even received a welcoming response from social networks and news portals. New users were created and new projects began to be uploaded, which provides an encouraging picture for the future.
