A Study on Effect of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag on Atterberg Limits of Marine Clay

2017
The Marine Clay is highly compressible and exhibits moderate swelling and it deforms very easily with the application of load in presence of water. So it is difficult to construct and maintain the foundations and also roads & embankments in these soils. In this present investigation an attempt has been made to examine the GGBS induced changes on the Atterberg limits and free swell index of Marine Clay at different proportions of GGBS (0% to 30% at an interval of 5%) for both immediate and curing conditions. The results indicate that the Marine Clay which has high liquid limit, plastic limit and free swell index can be decreased by mixing GGBS. But the curing conditions of mix shows marked effect in controlling the behavior of Marine Clay.
