Design of Reconfigurable Architecture for Symmetric Cipher Domain

Characteristics of cipher systems were studied,and an architecture of reconfigurable array for symmetric cipher domain was proposed,which could be reconfigured to block cipher and stream cipher systems.By updating configuration information,it could change applications dynamically within less than 20 ns.The proposed structure was comprised of several 16×16-bit arrays and 8×8-byte arrays.In 3 block cipher algorithms,the encryption rate was 640 Mb/s to 2.56 Gb/s for AES,1.6 Gb/s to 3.2 Gb/s for DES and 318 Mb/s to 1.6 Gb/s for SMS4,which was nearly a 2 times improvement,compared to those in Refs. and [3].For stream cipher algorithm,Geffe,the encryption rate was 400 Mb/s.
