Alopecia induced by dopamine agonists

To the Editor: Reversible alopecia has been recently described as a rare side effect of anti-Parkinson medications, such as l-dopa, pergolide, and bromocriptine,1,2⇓ in Neurology when reversible alopecia of the head was reported in two women treated with the dopamine agonists pramipexole and ropinirole.3 We observed alopecia areata of the beard under combination therapy with the ergot dopamine agonist cabergoline and selegiline. Cabergoline is widely used for the treatment of PD in Europe and Japan but it is not available for this purpose in the United States. …
