Current limitations and challenges in the global textile sector

Abstract The textile sector is the second biggest job provider across the globe, a most important sector in a country’s economy and offers huge job opportunities. China is a country with a huge textile industry across the globe in both overall production and exports. India is the third largest clothing producer in the world behind China and the United States. Pakistan stands at eighth for the export of textile commodities in Asia. In 2016 Vietnam was the world’s third largest exporter of garments behind China and Bangladesh. Vietnam exports its textile products to 180 countries. The lack of power looms and availability of government funds is decreasing the growth of the textile industry in Vietnam, India and Pakistan. In this chapter, we discuss the challenges and limitations of the textile industry around the world and future aspects to be overcome with alternative technological innovation to enhance productivity, quality and process safety are highlighted.
