LPWAN/UNB IoT Systems Performance Investigations

2020
This chapter provides a validation of the performance-testing methodologies presented in the previous chapter. Performance outcomes of two Low Throughput Network systems (i.e. LoRa and Weightless) and one UNB system representative (i.e. SigFox) are presented here, separately for immunity to the noise or interference (e.g. as during an electromagnetic cyberattack) and to the multipath propagation. As is demonstrated, there exists regularity in the way systems react (in terms of the Packet Error Rate vs. carrier-to-noise-and-interference ratio) to these factors; that can be converted into practical guidelines for designers and administrators of these systems in order to facilitate more conscious, efficient planning and implementation of IoT networks.
