The use of surgical paddle electrodes in the cervical spine is less popular than thoracic electrodes. This chapter provides insights into the benefits of and indications for cervical paddle electrodes and presents some of the leading evidence for their efficacy. It describes in some detail the techniques the authors use to insert paddle electrodes and the advantages and potential disadvantages of particular electrode types and placements. It also offers advice on some of the key concepts to reduce risks and avoid pitfalls.
