Research on location optimization of variable message signs based on typical traffic routing theory in urban transportation

The typical traffic routing theory is first introduced to reflect the travel law in urban network.Based on this theory the traffic volume,the frequency of traffic congestion and the VMS's economic factor are comprehensively analyzed.A method is then developed to determine the locations of VMS in terms of the maximization effect of Variable Message Signs.Finally,the improved genetic algorithm is applied to determine the optimal locations of VMS.
