Proposal for Reporting Size of Vestibular Schwannoma

Analysis of surgical and epidemiological series as well as wait-and-scan series supports the proposal of the following classification of vestibular schwannomas based on the largest extrameatal diameter only: intrameatal tumors, small tumors (1–10 mm extrameatal size), medium tumors (11–20 mm extrameatal size), large tumors (21–40 mm extrameatal size), and giant tumors (41 mm extrameatal size or larger). We do, however, gladly support the proposal of the Kanzaki group to split large tumors into a group of moderately larger tumors of 21–30 mm extrameatal size and a group of large tumors of 31–40 mm extrameatal size, thus resulting in six size groups.
