DESIGN OF MAJOR URBAN JUNCTIONS: COMPREHENSIVE REPORT
1998
Traffic accidents and casualties at urban junctions are a serious problem in the member states of the EU. Proper design can help to simplify the traffic situation and prevent dangerous behaviour by road users. The objective of this study is to form a platform for effective safety standards for major urban junctions. The report is based on Note 52, 1998, from the Danish Road Directorate (RD) and VTI EC Research 3-1998, from the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI). The following main topics are discussed: types of junctions, individual elements and accident/casualty models. Recommendations for design and urgent research and development areas are proposed. (A)
