Study of flexural strength of CFRP composites with functionalized graphene oxide

Abstract The work investigates the flexural strength of CFRP composites using functionalized graphene oxide (FGO) as the nanofillers. GO is prepared by modified Hummer’s method followed by amine (–NH2) functionalization using one pot solvothermal method. FGO nanofillers are incorporated into epoxy resin by matrix modification method followed by fabrication of CFRP composites. The weight fraction of FGO nanofillers are varied from 0.05-0.25 wt%. Flexural strength of the CFRP composites were studied using 3-point bending method. The flexural strength indicated an increase by 132.89% for an addition of 0.25 wt% of FGO. Characterization of nano particles were done using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy
