The process of the progressive increase in the prevalence of diabetes in Russia, and all over the world as well, continues nowadays. The main part of the patients with diabetes (95%) is considered to be the people with the 2nd type of diabetes. The close connection between obesity and 2nd type of diabetes is confirmed by numerous prospective researches. The paper presents the data on prevalence of diabetes and its complications in the city of Irkutsk, also the prevalence and pattern of obesity and overweight in diabetic patients in the city of Irkutsk have been presented.
