This paper focuses on linking critical historians of the thirties with the patriotic education promoted by conservative governments. Historical memory was considered a state matter and expressed in the creation of new institutions (associations of historians, museums), erection of monuments and ritual renewal in line with the nationalist perspective. Ricardo Levene was a leading figure in the diffusion of official history in educational contexts, not without question by the emerging revisionist initiatives.
