Design and analysis of linear oscillating motor for linearpump application-magnetic field, dynamics and thermotics

A linear oscillating motor is an electromag-netic actuator that can achieve short-stroke reciprocatingmovement directly without auxiliary transmission mechan-isms. It has been widely used in linear pump applicationsas the source of power and motion. However, because ofthe demand of high power density in a linear actuationsystem, the performance of linear oscillating motors hasbeen the focus of studies and deserves further research forhigh power density. In this paper, a general framework oflinear oscillating motor design and optimization isaddressed in detail, including the electromagnetic,dynamics, and thermal aspects. First, the electromagneticand dynamics characteristics are modeled to reveal theprinciple for optimization. Then, optimization and analysison magnetic structure, resonant system, and thermalfeatures are conducted, which provide the foundation forprototype development. Finally, experimental results areprovided for validation. As a whole, this process offerscomplete guidance for high power density linear oscillat-ing motors in linear pump applications.
