A Zigbee Based Centralized Health Monitoring Wireless Network for Transformers in Smart Grid

2020
This paper proposes a wireless network system to transmit health monitoring data of transformers in a smart grid system with low packet loss. A low power Zigbee based network is developed to reliably and sustainably transmit continuous data from the transformer node to the central smart grid server. Two low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) methods are used to cluster transformers, which transmit data via IEEE 802.15.4 Zigbee protocol using star topology. Comparison between the two LEACH methods, GMM and K means are presented in terms of packet loss and energy consumption. For the measurement of performance metrics, the 5G path-loss model for Micro Urban Street Canyon Model is considered with dynamic shadow fading.
