The proposal manager-a value add

2002
The complexity of customer problems and the rigorous evaluation criteria used to select the best business proposal from a number of competing proponents is requiring that business proposals be prepared to an extraordinarily high level of quality in order to be successful in winning the contract. This necessitates preparation of an accurate and compliant proposal that will exceed expectations giving the customer a feeling of confidence that the organization will deliver the best solution to their business problem. A cross-functional team assembled by specialty is often assembled to collaboratively write business proposals. These teams require dynamic leadership and effective technical communication. A proposal development process that is led by a proposal manager who is a professional technical communicator; who has a basic understanding of the subject matter; and who has the responsibility, authority, and skills to manage a cross-disciplinary team of professionals is the scope of discussion in this document This centralized proposal management process will provide business value to the organization, generating a positive return on investment for this important function.
