Trauma-Informed Family Planning

Various aspects of family planning can be especially stressful or triggering for survivors of SGBV, including pregnancy, contraceptive decision making, and abortion. It is important for family planning providers to understand the ways in which sexual trauma can affect the patient’s experience of receiving family planning care. This chapter reviews the various aspects of family planning with particular attention to how these elements may be altered or heightened for survivors, and how providers can modify their practice in order to accommodate survivors’ needs and concerns.
