Cold Plasma Therapy

2014
Plasma therapy is a rapidly developing area of medicine, which is based on nonthermal effects of nonequilibrium ‘cold’ gas plasma. The nonthermal plasma (NTP) exerts proven microbicidal and sporicidal effects while it has relatively low toxicity for mammalian tissues. The review discusses mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of the ‘cold’ plasma and its selectivity toward prokaryotes. The applications of NTP in medicine and hygiene are considered.
