Esclarecimento da população de Dourados-MS sobre maus-tratos em cães e gatos

2019
The population of pets has been increasing in line with human population growth, assuming almost equal proportions, often neglecting basic needs for its survival. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the degree of enlightenment of the population of Dourados-MS on the responsible keeper of their pets. For that, a questionnaire containing questions related to the mistreatment applied to animals was applied, which was filled manually or electronically by 653 randomly chosen interviewees. It was verified that there is still a lack of clarification on the responsible possession of animals independently of the social position, since a large part of the interviews consisted of individuals who have some degree of education (99.8%), family income (95.2%) and age over 20 years (84.3%). It was found that 39.8% of the interviewees claimed not to take walks with their pet; 5,5% admitted never to have carried out a veterinary consultation; 3.7% do not perform procedures for normal cleaning of their animals; 1.10% imprisoned throughout the day through their animal chains and 3.9% of the guardians apply physical aggression to their animals when something displeases them. In this way, it is concluded that there is a need for a larger number of campaigns with more clarifying forms of the mistreatment modalities suffered by the animals.
