Anti-tumor activity of Origanum oil in vitro.

Objective To observe the inhibitory effect of Origanum oil on three types of tumor cell lines in vitro.Method MTT assay was used to test the inhibitory effect of Origanum oil on different types of tumor cell lines in vitro with different concentration and IC50 was calculated.Result After Origanum oil treatment,the human hepatoma cell line HepG2,human cervical cancer cell line JTC-26 and lung cancer cell line A549 occurred proliferation blocking.The IC50 of Oregano oil for the liver cancer line HepG2,human cervical cancer cell line JTC-26 and lung cancer cell line A549 were 118 μg/ml,118 μg/ml and 59 μg/ml respectively by MTT method.Conclusion Oregano oil has anti-tumor activity in vitro.
