Isolation and preliminary identification of 45 Gallibacterium anatis strains

45 Gallibacterium anatis strains from 10 tissues of 101 chickens were isolated and identified by morphological observation,differential cultivation,Vitek-32 automatic bacterial identification system,PCR and sequence analysis.Among the 45 isolates,43 isolates were from hens with salpingitis and 2 isolates were from hens with respiratory symptoms previously.No Gallibacterium anatis was isolated from cocks or SPF hens.All of the 45 Gallibacterium anatis strains had the same drug resistance patterns to cidomycin,phytomycin,ampicillin,laevomycetin,deoxycycline,norfloxacin and sulfonamides.The experimental data indicate clear correlation of Gallibacterium anatis with hen salpingitis and urgent need for further investigation into the drug resistance to effective control of the disease in Chinese poultry flocks.
