NEW MATERIAL:Compound of formula I [R 1 is aryl which may have 1W5 substituted groups such as halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkanesulfonamide, mono-(di- or tri-)halo(lower) alkyl, etc.; R 2 , R 3 are H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkanesulfonamide, etc.; A is O, S, or CH 2 ; n=0 or 1] and its pharmaceutically acceptable salt. EXAMPLE: 2-(2-Phenoxyphenyl)amino-2-imidazoline. USE: Hypotensive agents, antiinflammatory agents, lenitives, and antiulceratives. PROCESS: For example, a compound of formula VI is made to react with an isothiocyanate of formula SCN-R 4 to give a compound of formula IV, which is then deacylated to give a compound of formula III.
