Os impactos do terrorismo no turismo internacional

portuguesA nivel global sao conhecidos os impactos que atentados terroristas de projecao internacional tem tido nos fluxos turisticos, na economia mundial e nos paises afetados, fragilizando a organizacao do setor turistico. O objetivo principal deste artigo e analisar ate que ponto o terrorismo afeta os fluxos turisticos internacionais globalmente e, em particular, a procura turistica de destinos alvo de atentados terroristas, atraves da analise de indicadores estatisticos nalguns destinos selecionados. Desenvolve-se uma analise mais aprofundada sobre o caso do Egito por se tratar de um destino de eleicao a nivel mundial, assim como por ter, ao longo da sua historia recente, sido palco de varios atos terroristas. Pela natureza dos objetivos delineados, a metodologia adotada neste estudo assentou na revisao da literatura sobre terrorismo e turismo internacional e na recolha de dados estatisticos da procura turistica com o objetivo de analisar os impactos do terrorismo nos destinos selecionados. O estudo sugere que, apesar do impacto negativo das acoes terroristas no turismo internacional, este nem sempre se reflete em quebras significativas na procura turistica nos anos seguintes a essas ocorrencias, podendo a dimensao deste impacto ser variavel em funcao das caracteristicas do destino, mediatizacao associada aos eventos terroristas e medidas adotadas. EnglishThe global impacts of international terrorist attacks on tourist flows, world economy countries´ economies and tourist sector organisation and their subsequent weakening are well known. The main objective of this article is to demonstrate the impact of terrorism on international tourism presenting a general perspective about its problems and the relationship between the terrorist events and tourist activities in certain destinations through a specific case study in Egypt. This country stands out for being a tourist destination with a great diversity of resources and tourist development potential as well as being the stage for poignant terrorist attacks in its recent history. Due to the nature of the objectives of this study, the methodology was based in the literature review on international tourism and terrorism and on the data collection about international tourism in order to analyse the impacts of terrorism on the international tourism demand on the selected countries. The study suggests that there is indeed a negative impact on international tourism as a result of terrorist actions but that in some cases this is not reflected in significant reductions in tourism demand. The scope of the impact could be variable according to the tourist destination, media coverage and measures implemented.
