Recidivism among Adult Parolees: What Makes the Difference?.

1998
Abstract A sample of N = 254 male adult parolees (92% male) was followed after release to determine what parolee characteristics predicted the outcome of parole. Three variables showed likelihood of parole violation: the longer the sentence, the more likely the person was to violate. The parole officer's assessment of high risk often predicted violation. If the person had been on parole earlier, he or she was less likely to violate their present parole.
