Anempirical study on the performance of self-financingEngineering colleges (autonomous and non-autonomous) -Ateacher’s perspective
2014
A study is carried out using faculty member’s perceptions to understand the performance of self-financing engineering colleges. A properly designed and self-administered questionnaire with 51 statements covering 21 dimensions (18 input dimensions and 3 outcome dimensions) is used to
collect the responses from the randomly selected faculty members who attended 41st ISTE National Convention and Golden Jubilee International Conference. The objective was to arrive at the significant characteristics that differentiate self-financing engineering colleges without autonomous status with those having autonomous status. Besides mean, standard deviation etc., the statistical
tools such as t-test, correlation analysis and cross-tabulation were used to analyze the data and test
the hypotheses with the help of statistical computer software SPSS 16.Significant differences
between the autonomous and non-autonomous self-financing engineering colleges were noticed with
respect to ten quality dimensions out of twenty one. Significant correlation was observed among the
outcome dimensions and most of the input dimensions irrespective of the category of colleges
